When: 12 weeks with 36 indie bands! Showcase runs every Sunday, starting 7pm till close, from February 28 to May 23, 2010. 12 weeks with a pre orientation kick-off party & a final Original Music Showcase - Kokanee Awards Party (3 top bands play)
Kick-Off Party: Sunday February 21st, 2010 @ 7:30pm. All bands and members must attend to receive their T-shirts and orientation on the event. Orientation: Introduce some of the judges, guest speakers, review judging criteria, meet and greet other bands and Q&A.
Results: Unedited Results are given out the following Thursday of your gig date. Read over the critics and finesse your show accordingly so you have a greater chance of making it to the top of the next event.
Swag: all bands entered will receive 50 pre-printed admission tickets for their show, Sponsored T-shirts and 10 Kokanee beer tickets for the date of their show,
What is the event: This is an exposure based event that gives bands the opportunity to play for the chance to make the short list on the Rock Star 2010 event, get radio airtime on Beggar ads on Amp Radio 90.3, feature interviews on 3 West Tv, prizing and play at a high exposure gig and much more. This event is for you to have fun with and at the same time receive valuable feedback from qualified judges.
How does it work: Bands play a 45 minute set of all original tunes (no cover tunes are permitted in parts or whole songs) in front of audience and judges. The bands are rated according to criteria and judged by qualified judges. The results are posted on the Blind Beggar Pub website (www.blindbeggarpub.com) by the following Wednesday. The top three bands with the best overall scores will be awarded prizing and exposure accordingly and will play at the Original Music Showcase -Kokanee Awards Party at the Blind Beggar Pub.
Judging: Bands will be judged by a panel of music industry judges based on the following criteria;
1) Stage Presence - The judges are looking for confidence, ability to command the stage and the audiences attention, control over nerves, look, charisma and overall stage show as an ensemble.
2) Individual Musicianship - The judges will be looking for each member's ability to play their instruments without mistakes and with confidence..
3) Content/Songwriting/Hook - The judges will be listening for songs they would like to hear again. They will be listening for certain hooks or catches, whether it be the whole song or specific parts, rifts or licks. They also will be listening for creativity in the musical arrangement, lyric quality and content and rhythmic styling depending on genre.
4) Originality - Judges want to hear a sound that you can call your own. This doesn't mean bands can't fit in to a certain music genre but they should be looking to find their own unique version of that genre.
5) Crowd Response - Judges are looking to see if the band brings and engages the crowd and gets them involved. Judges want the crowd to watch the band and get excited and will be talking to the audience to get their opinions. Each band will be given 50 tickets to help promote your show and you will receive points on the number of tickets redeemed.
Prizing: All bands will receive Beer and swag from sponsors just for getting up. Some prizing may vary.
